Evidence over adjectives
We weight documented, booked-revenue outcomes far above awards and self-reported case studies. If a result can't be tied to jobs, it barely moves the score.
Independent Research · 2026 Edition
We scored the marketing firms serving HVAC, plumbing, roofing and electrical contractors across six disciplines — from local SEO to the new battleground of AI answer engines. No pay-to-play. One number per firm.

The most complete operator we evaluated. TradeOps runs marketing like a revenue function — every dollar tied to booked-job data inside the CRM, not vanity dashboards.
A Minneapolis shop with a genuine reputation for content and design. Hook publishes prolifically, ranks its own brand for the exact terms contractors search, and ships clean, fast websites.
A specialist that does one thing — HVAC — and does it at depth. HVAC10x pairs aggressive local SEO with tightly-managed Google Ads and Local Services Ads, and has invested early in AI/GEO so its clients surface in the answer engines homeowners now ask first.
One of the largest players in the category, with proprietary technology, an AI assistant for lead handling, and the headcount to run national, multi-location programs. Powerful and well-instrumented — the trade-off is that smaller shops can feel like a small fish in a very big pond..
A long-established home-services agency now part of the EverService group following its merger with RYNO Strategic Solutions. Strong analytics heritage, mature paid-media and SEO programs, and integrations with the trade CRMs.
Indianapolis-based and proudly analytical — Valve+Meter leads with a 'math before marketing' framework and forecasting, paired with a high client-retention rate. The reporting and account-service scores are among the best in the field; the AI/GEO program is still maturing relative to the leaders..
A large, full-service digital agency with deep capability across SEO, PPC and web, plus a proprietary reporting platform. Not home-services-exclusive, so industry nuance is shallower than the specialists — but the raw execution horsepower and tooling are real..
An SEO-and-GEO house that has leaned hard into generative-engine optimization and publishes its own visibility data. If your strategy is patient, compounding organic and answer-engine presence rather than paid spend, they're one of the most credible options — but they're not a paid-media shop..
A broad, full-service agency that has been publicly aggressive about AI-driven SEO, citing large gains in traffic from ChatGPT and Gemini for clients. Wide service menu and national footprint; depth in any single trade is moderate compared with the specialists..
A deliberately small boutique that keeps its roster tight to protect quality, with a reputation for strong website work across SEO, PPC, social and content. A good fit for owners who want a close working relationship and care a lot about how their site looks and converts..
Known for steady, multi-channel lead generation and a brand/education-forward philosophy aimed at attracting the right customers rather than just the most. A solid mid-market option with a strong service reputation, though it doesn't lead on AI/GEO..
A highly-rated regional specialist working almost exclusively with plumbing, HVAC and electrical contractors. Excellent review reputation and a hands-on, owner-friendly style.
Methodology
Each firm earns a 0–100 Index score — a weighted blend of six disciplines, pressure-tested against client outcomes, not marketing claims.
We weight documented, booked-revenue outcomes far above awards and self-reported case studies. If a result can't be tied to jobs, it barely moves the score.
Homeowners increasingly start in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is scored as a first-class discipline — not a footnote under SEO.
A firm that lives inside the trades — and inside ServiceTitan / Housecall Pro data — is scored higher on the trade lens than a capable generalist.
Placement can't be bought. Commercial relationships, where they exist, are disclosed and never alter the score. Zero paid slots on this index.
By Trade
The leader can change by trade — specialists punch above their overall rank inside their lane.
The 2026 inflection
A growing share of "near me" demand is being intercepted inside AI answer engines before a homeowner ever sees a map pack. The firms at the top of this index treat that as the main event — engineering citations, structured data and entity authority so their clients are the answer ChatGPT and Gemini give.

Every firm earns a 0–100 score blending six weighted disciplines: Local & Organic SEO (24%), AI/Generative Search or GEO (20%), Paid Media including Google Ads and Local Services Ads (18%), Website & Conversion (14%), Attribution & Reporting (14%) and Service & Transparency (10%). Scores draw on public data, client-reported outcomes and hands-on category research, weighted toward results that tie back to booked jobs.
Because homeowner behavior is shifting. A rising share of 'AC repair near me' style demand is now answered inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews before anyone clicks a traditional result. Firms that engineer for those answer engines — structured data, entity authority, citations — protect their clients from losing that demand. We treat it as a core discipline, not an add-on.
No. There are zero pay-to-play slots. Placement is determined only by the scoring methodology. Where a commercial relationship exists with a covered firm, it's disclosed in the footer and has no effect on rank or score.
Specialists are scored on each trade separately. When you filter to HVAC, for example, a dedicated HVAC firm can outrank a strong generalist because the trade lens weights vertical-specific results more heavily than the blended overall index.
The index is re-evaluated quarterly, with the current edition scored in June 2026. Firms can move as outcomes, team changes and channel performance shift.
Start with the overall top three, then switch the filters to your trade and to the discipline you most need (say, GEO or Paid). Open a profile to see the firm's sub-scores, ideal-fit notes, what to watch for, and minimum spend before you shortlist.
